Ultrasensitive PSA by the Immulite method.
1 June 2010
Great News - Ultrasensitive PSA is now available at Western Diagnostic Pathology.
This test is available for patients who have very low/undetectable levels following prostate cancer therapy.
Generally Ultrasensitive PSA is only appropriate for PSA levels of 0.2 µg/L and below. It is not suitable for measurement of elevated PSA.
In those cases where a standard PSA is requested and the result is found to be
PSA =0.2 µg/L, the laboratory will perform an ultrasensitive PSA.
What this means for you:
• Request “UltraSensitive PSA” to differentiate this from a standard PSA
• Include a clinical history - “history of prostate cancer”
