Dr David Paton completed his specialist training in Anatomical Pathology in Western Australia and joined WDP as a consultant pathologist in 2019. In addition to diagnostic work across a broad range of histopathology and cytopathology, he developed a growing interest in medical education as Adjunct Clinical Senior Lecturer at Curtin Medical School.

Dr Paton further honed his expertise in dermatopathology through a six-month observership in the UK and Slovenia, training under internationally recognised experts Dr Asok Biswas and Dr Bostjan Luzar, and obtained the International Board Certification in Dermatopathology (ICDP/UEMS-EBVD) in 2024.

His key areas of interest include melanocytic pathology and inflammatory dermatopathology, including alopecia. He is a member of the Australian Dermatopathology Society and serves on the pathology review panel of the WA Kirkbride Melanoma Advisory Service (WAKMAS).
