Dr Karen Boyd has been a Consultant in Clinical and Laboratory Haematology since 2021 and currently splits her time between WDP laboratory and Joondalup Health campus. Originally from Scotland, she completed her medical degree at the University of Aberdeen before undertaking Foundation and Core Medical Training in Glasgow with a brief stint in Australia between. She subsequently moved to st Andrews and completed specialist Haematology training in Dundee, obtaining her fellowship exams under the royal college of pathologists, as well as the membership exams under the royal college of physicians.
She took up her first Consultant post in Fife, where she managed the full breadth of malignant and non-malignant haematology. Her clinical practice and skills encompassed managing acute leukaemias, high- and low-grade lymphomas, myeloma, and CLL, alongside non-malignant conditions including ITP, AIHA, haemochromatosis, and other complex haematological disorders. She served as Lead Clinician for Myeloproliferative Neoplasms and, in 2024, hosted a dedicated patient education day in collaboration with MPN Voice, reflecting her commitment to patient-centred care and education.
In 2025, she relocated with her husband and two children to Perth, seeking sunnier shores, an outdoor lifestyle, and new professional opportunities. Outside of work, she enjoys cycling, swimming, music, and spending time with her family.
