Dr Melita Cirillo is a specialist haematologist with a special interest in malignant haematology, particularly lymphoma, myeloma and leukaemia, and consultative haematology including obstetric haematology, bleeding and clotting disorders.
Dr Cirillo completed her medical training at the University of Western Australia and worked as a junior doctor at Royal Perth Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital, where she completed a Diploma in Obstetrics in 2011 (DRANZCOG). She later worked in Hawkes Bay (New Zealand) before returning to Perth to complete her training. She was awarded the AMAWA Junior Doctor of the Year in 2015 for her work in teaching and training for junior doctors.
Dr Cirillo currently works as a consultant haematologist at Royal Perth Hospital. She has an interest in translational clinical research and completed a fellowship in Cologne, Germany with the German Hodgkin Lymphoma Study Group. She is the lead investigator on several trials at Royal Perth Hospital and experience in the field of liquid biopsy. She is the recipient of research grants several local and international research grants. She maintains professional memberships with the Australian Leukaemia & Lymphoma Group (ALLG), Australasian Lymphoma Alliance (ALA) and Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ).
Dr Cirillo is also a co-Director of Physician Education at Fiona Stanley Hospital. She maintains a keen interest in the education of junior doctors and supervisor of training. She supports also supports the education of medical students in her adjunct position at the University of Western Australia.
